What is "Infrared"?
Infrared heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum of sunlight that heats the body normally. In an Infrared Sauna, infrared heaters warm the body in the same manner as natural sunlight. This infrared energy is also close to the same wavelength as that which the body naturally emits, so the energy is well received by the body. The infrared energy deeply penetrates the skin and warms the muscles and joints. As opposed to a traditional sauna that heats up the air around you, infrared rays warm the body and penetrates the body’s muscle tissue and internal organs.
Infrared Sauna use has numerous benefits including detoxification, pain relief, relaxation, increased circulation, reduced stress, improved skin condition, and weight loss.
What is the difference between a traditional Steam Sauna and an Infrared Sauna?
The temperature for a traditional sauna typically ranges between 150 and 185º F. The hottest point in the sauna is typically between 185 and 190º F. In a traditional sauna, perspiration is achieved when you enter a heated room. The process for heating the room most often involves an electric heater that heats a compartment of stones, which then radiate the heat throughout the room. Most traditional sauna users also enjoy pouring water over the rocks to create steam to raise sauna humidity levels.
The temperature for an Infrared Sauna is usually set between 120 and 140º F; but unlike the traditional sauna, the goal is not to achieve a high temperature. When the Infrared Sauna is on, infrared rays are being emitted and effectively penetrating the body with much less heat and no steam. This creates a less oppressive and much more pleasant heat which is preferred by many sauna users.
In a far-infrared sauna, the heat waves penetrate the body to effectively heat the body and raise the body core temperature. When the energy enters the body, it causes the body temperature to increase and ultimately results in perspiration. Perspiration is the goal for all sauna use and results in the many detoxification benefits.
